Open Assistant is a self-hosted AI assistant. The Project provides open-source software under the Business Source License 1.1 (BSL). Managed instances are provided separately by the Project maintainers or authorized partners.
The software is licensed under the Business Source License 1.1. Under the BSL, you may not use the software for production or commercial purposes until the BSL converts to the General Public License (GPL). The BSL becomes irrevocable and converts to GPL four years after initial publication, or earlier under certain conditions. You may run the software for personal and evaluation use at any time.

The Project may be configured to interact with third-party services (email providers, cloud storage, messaging platforms, LLM providers). Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies.
THE PROJECT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. THE PROJECT MAINTAINERS DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE PROJECT MAINTAINERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE PROJECT.
We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Continued use of the Project after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
